Pop-Up Dinner SoHo

On June 28, make your way to the International Culinary Center (ICC) in Soho for a gastronomic adventure guided by chef Pablo Ranea and architect Alejandro Cohen. One of many pop-ups to experience near the 70 Charlton Soho condos, this special event promises an evening full of delectable dishes, perfectly chosen wines, and excellent music.

Ranea and Cohen will present a six-course dinner at ICC — it’s the first of their pop-ups to be open to the public. The dinner, accompanied by a premium flight of 10 unique Argentine wines, will also treat guests to music by Los Buendia, a bolero band from Mendoza, Argentina, adding an extra dimension to what promises to be a memorable evening.

The vision for this pop-up arose at the end of the Argentine harvest season in Renea’s and Cohen’s native Mendoza. Gathering their favorite spices and a passel of unique and wonderfully peculiar ingredients, the pair will make their way to NYC in search of local inspiration. The adventure of such an undertaking presents a unique challenge: how to present the flavors of their homeland while reflecting elements of the chosen location.

The pair’s individual perceptions on the interplay between food and wine, as well as new explorations of Argentine cooking techniques, are what will make this modern gastronomic experiment an unparalleled experience for them and for the connoisseurs they welcome to their table. Try as we might to make comparisons or to contextualize gastronomy of this type in this setting, it is difficult to do so. There’s a theatricality to setting the event against a particular backdrop. But unlike theater we will not see the performance of our hosts’ duties as the ultimate expression of their craft. There’s a sporting quality to visiting for a “one off” challenge. But unlike sport, there is no win or loss but, rather, only the range of experience as held by each person present. And while the beauty of the dishes themselves is like fine visual art, you cannot capture dimensions such as tastes and smells in a picture or a video. The only way to experience this event is to be there; the only memento of the evening will be a memory.
